A Poem for Father's Day

(I wrote this last year. Every time this bird shows up, it's a beautiful reminder.)

Blue Heron

There are figs ripening in the sun
and trees twittering in the morning air.
How can I not be happy with all that is?
The blue heron
soared above me yesterday.
Was it Dad again?
As he has come
so many times since the day of his funeral
a solitary silvery blue
streak in the sky
or at the water’s edge
gently reminding me
I am never alone.
