FlowRadio Tribute to Peter Gabriel for WEVL spring pledge drive:
I also found some nice live video performances to share:
In Your Eyes (circa '80s with Youssou N'Dour)
Biko (1986)
San Jacinto (1986)
Downside Up
Growing Up
And beyond the music, there are many other reasons I wanted to honor Peter Gabriel with a special FlowRadio tribute show. He is a tireless advocate for human rights.
He started the Witness program to equip people with cameras to fight human rights abuses worldwide. (Peter Gabriel talks about Witness and human rights.)
He is one of the founders of The Elders program, which seeks the collective wisdom of the elders in every corner and culture of the world so we can listen and pay attention to their advice on surviving these difficult changing times in human history.
And just last month, during a tour stop in Mexico, he delivered a petition and message to Mexico's president to do more to stop the murders of women and girls in Cuidad Juraerez.
Getting back to the music:
He started his Real World label primarily to capture and preserve the music of people and cultures around the world and the WOMAD music festival series to celebrate it.
And he created a pretty fabulous recording studio in Bath, England.
